[Evergreen Lake Michelle]

        Dear Residents,

The CoCT seems to have awaken to the fact that they have been under charging your refuse removal in Lake Michelle.

Q & A:
Q: So what does this all mean?
A: In the past the City of Cape Town has only charged Refuse collection for 5 of the 31 houses in Lake Michelle. As of March 2024, they have realised this error and thus backdated these charges back to June 2023.

Q: Why has this only been picked up now?
A: The CoCT must have done an audit and found that they have been under charging us, now they are back dating this charge.

Q: Did Evergreen not provide for the balance when it was picked up that there were incorrect charges?
A: No, unfortunately we cannot as we can only recover the amount that is being charged.

Q: How much is the Refuse charge supposed to be?
A: The CoCT charge for refuse is R157.30 + VAT = R180.90 per bin per month

Q: Has Evergreen Queried this back dated charge?
A: Yes we have, however it doesn't seem we will be successful in the appeal, however we will keep you informed of the outcome.

Q: So, what is the impact on my monthly charges?
A: As we have only been recovering R31 per unit per month for the period in Question, the recovery for next 8 months will be R425.50 (R180.90 + R244.60). After the 8 months, the normal charge of R180.90 will be recovered.
