[Evergreen Muizenberg]

        Dear Resident,

I would firstly like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by the 'false' fire alarm
in the early hours of yesterday morning. We realise that not only is it a shock to the
system, but it also disturbs some essential sleep, which as we get older is sometimes
difficult to achieve.

However this comes with some paradox, putting the inconvenience aside and after
assessing the problems I see a huge positive. I see it as a very necessary emergency
evacuation drill. We were able to experience a 'real-time' evacuation without any warning
at one the most inopportune times.

I would like to thanks all those volunteer evacuation marshals and staff on duty who helped with
the evacuation and to you, the resident, who took part in the evacuation. Also thank you to those
residents who have added their constructive observations.
This was a valuable exercise.

Remedial Action - Christo immediately got hold of IntegraTek, who also reacted swiftly to his
request and two technicians were here the same morning. Two devices, one situated in the
basement near south block lift and one in the kitchen, were found to be faulty. These were replaced.
With the continuous load shedding that we are currently experiencing it was also found that the
software in the fire panels, which allows the panels to communicate with each other, had also corrupted.
This is the primary reason that the alarm went on for so long and Siviwe the manager of duty was
unable to deactivate the alarm. New updated software has now been downloaded. The system was
tested and found to be working optimally. Batteries were also tested and found to be in good working
order and charging during normal electrical supply hours.

The evacuation / fire alarm system is due for its full, twice annual audit and service in November.
All devices will again be tested.

This was an opportunity to evaluate your readiness and preparedness in an emergency situation.
