[Evergreen Muizenberg] 12 January 2021 : COVID-19 cases update for the village

        Dear Resident,

Since my last communication of 6 January I am sorry to inform you that we have had
another three residents test positive for COVID-19 ; Rona Scholtz, Keith and Denise Elkin.
Under the circumstances Rona is coping well, she has a carer with her all day and our
healthcare staff do pop-ins during the night. The Elkins are doing well, other than the
normal lethargy, head-ache and some flu symptoms are in good spirits.

Some news on our other residents who contracted the virus. David Ricketts has improved
and is being moved to a step-down facility to further recover and recuperate. Alf Gadd was
taken to Victoria Hospital on Sunday after having some breathing difficulties. At this stage
he is still in a serious condition and is receiving excellent attention. Our thoughts and prayer
are with Alison and Kevin who I am in daily contact with. Violet Butler, other than normal
flu symptoms, is doing well and will be out of self-isolation next Monday, the 18th.

Please be aware that we have a few other residents who are self-isolating, as a courtesy
always call before knocking on fellow residents door. All other residents previously reported
on have recovered and are back in 'village life'.

As COVID-19 infections continue to rise in the Cape Town metropole<http://cityofcapetown.evlink19.net/servlet/link/28169/96320/57308030/487679>, it is more important
than ever that we keep our guard up. The provincial healthcare service is under strain and
it is therefore vital that we keep admissions to a minimum. By acting to limit the spread of
the virus, we can manage the load on our healthcare system and ultimately save lives. A
gentle reminder to be constantly vigilant and take all the well-publicised precautions.

There are a few additional announcements and appeals

  *   the residents committee (ResCom) have decided to postpone this month's meeting

until 9 February. An appeal to anyone who might want to make a contribution to

the village, we have some portfolios open, please contact Neville, ResCom chairman.

  *   please do not feed the birds, while you think you might be doing something good,

you are actually attracting vermin who then feed on the bread and seeds

  *   residents using the gym, always remember to take a 'perspiration' towel with you

and remember to thoroughly sanitise each time you have finished using that

particular piece of equipment.

Again, if you have been in contact with anyone who has tested positive or you are not
feeling well let us know, stay at home we will come to you.

  *   wear a mask
  *   sanitise and wash your hands regularly and thoroughly.
  *   practice 'social distancing', a distance of at least 2m / 6ft
