[Evergreen Muizenberg] Appeal for Evacuation Marshalls and other useful information

        Dear Resident,
This is an urgent appeal to residents for please volunteer as Evacuation Marshals.  A comprehensive information and training session will take place with each apartment floor and housing section.
I have extracted the below from our Emergency Evacuation Plan.
EVACUATION PROCEDURE

The following procedure should be followed in case of an emergency.

  *   Dial the office first, and if no response then the guardhouse. Clearly indicate what the emergency is and where it is occurring.
  *   In event of localised fire, extinguish the fire if you are competent. In the event of an electrical fire, switch off the mains on the distribution board first. Then proceed to attempt to extinguish the fire. Remember, your own safety is most important.
  *   Call & inform your immediate neighbours and area Marshal of the situation.
  *   Proceed with your family, visitors and pets to your designated Assembly point - take roll call and report the outcome to the emergency co-ordinator.
  *   Do not use your vehicle. Security must stop all vehicles, except emergency vehicles, from entering or exiting the Village. Security must ensure that the entrance lane to the Village is not obstructed by vehicles that have been stopped from entering the Village.

This is where I come in and appeal for volunteers -

Duties of the MARSHALS:

On becoming aware of an emergency, the Marshals should take the following actions:

  *   Make themselves visible by wearing the Marshal reflective vests.
  *   Commence evacuation if the circumstances in their area warrant this.
  *   Assist residents in their area that would require physical assistance during an evacuation.
  *   Communicate with the Emergency Coordinator by whatever means available and act on his/her instructions.

  *   Act as leader of groups moving to designated assembly areas and ensure the orderly flow of persons into protected areas.
  *   Take the roll call and communicate this to the emergency coordinator as well as information regarding medical assistance.
  *   If a fire should start in one residential unit it is important to note that the direct surrounding units must be evacuated.
  *   Please remember our priority is that we save lives over property, and that it is more important to raise the alarm than run alone into a property that is on fire.
