[Evergreen Muizenberg] MZB> Rates Rebate Applications for Life Right Holders

Dear Residents,

We understand that the previous communication regarding the eligibility of Life Right Holders (LRHs) to apply for the City of Cape Town Rates Rebate caused some concern. We therefore sought clarification and assistance from our Ward Councillor, Mandy Marr, and her team.

We are pleased to share the following response received from Alderman Moodley:

Life right holders were previously excluded from the pensioner rebate process because they are not classified as property owners and, as such, did not qualify for the rebate in terms of the Municipal Property Rates Act.
The City has since obtained a legal opinion confirming that it may extend the pensioner rebate to life right holders, provided they meet the City's eligibility requirements for the pensioner rebate.

  *   The Rates Rebate application form.

Should you require assistance with completing your application, the Office will be available to assist on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 10:00 and 12:00.

Good day,

We have received numerous enquiries regarding Rates Rebate applications for Life Right Holders.
Please find attached the Life Right Holder Rates Rebate Application Form, which must be completed in full by both the Life Right Holder and the Property Owner.
This form is specifically intended for Life Right Holder applicants.
The following documents are required for all applications:

  *   Copy of the Life Right Agreement
  *   Copy of Identity Documents (Life Right Holder and Property Owner)
  *   Proof of Municipal Account
  *   The Life Right Holder(s) and their spouse or partner must provide:
     *   Copies of Identity Documents
     *   Proof of income
     *   Bank statements from all financial institutions for the most recent three months
  *   Salary slips (if applicable)
  *   Proof of pension (private or state pension)
  *   Proof of disability (medical certificate or report)
  *   Proof of investments/dividends
  *   Copy of lease agreement (if additional property is owned)
  *   Copy of death certificate or will (if applicable)

If you are dependent on a pension or social grant, and are 60 years or older earning R10 000 or less gross income a month, you may qualify for a 100% rates rebate. Pensioners aged 60 years or older earning more than R10 001, but no more than R27 000 a month, may qualify for a 10% - 90% rates rebate.

Please note: If the Life Right Agreement includes more than one Life Right Holder, each holder must submit the required supporting documentation.

Once the attached form has been completed in full and all supporting documents have been collected, kindly submit the application via email to Rates.Rebate at capetown.gov.za<mailto:Rates.Rebate at capetown.gov.za>.
A dedicated team has been assigned to process these applications.
