What’s happening next week: 02/09/2019 – 08/09/2019

We would like to wish a very Happy Birthday to Christina Walters (#64) on 4th September, Ian Stewart (#69) on 5th September, Trevor Earl (#25) on 6th September and Karen Visser (#44) on 7th September.

Our choice of meal for the Tuesday Social Dinner on Tuesday, 03 September in the Clubhouse at 6:30pm is a choice of Roast Pork Neck with apple puree, red wine jus, roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables OR Battered Hake with tartar sauce, chips, fresh lemon, Greek salad and dressing. This will be followed with Peach Crumble with ice-cream, tea/coffee. R140pp.  Please book before 12-noon on Monday, 02 September. Bookings can be made with Sheila in the Bistro on Ext 200. Payment can be made on account, cash or credit card. You are very welcome to bring your own wine/refreshments.

Coming up this week:-

  *   Arbor Week – Evergreen Bergvliet will be celebrating this international day by planting a Podocarpus falcatus (Yellowood) on Wednesday, 4 September at 4pm. Please join us for a glass of wine in the Bistro after the tree planting ceremony.
  *   Harry Curtis & Friends Concert will be held in the Clubhouse on Friday, 6 September at 7pm. It promises to be a wonderful evening in good company including local residents performers, Ronnie & Toetie van Reenen, Ian Mc Donald and Patrick O’Connell R60pp. Please note that NO food/snacks will be served. Please ensure that you eat before arriving for the show which starts promptly at 7pm. You are welcome to bring your own refreshments. For more information please contact please Jacky Orton on Ext 131. Booking essential – pay at reception.
  *   Movie Night on Saturday, 07 September at 7pm – Humor Me. A lovely story of an aging, widowed father who refuses to engage emotionally with his recently divorced son desperate for approval. Starring Elliot Gould and Jemaine Clement.
  *   On Tuesday, 3 September in the Clubhouse, Gavin Thompson from VOX will be giving a Fibre Presentation at 11am in the Clubhouse

Forthcoming events:
- Grinnell Security Awareness Talk on Monday, 9 September in the Clubhouse. A very good presentation on being more aware of our surrounding. Very helpful information.
- A follow-up Fibre Presentation will be held in the Clubhouse on Tuesday, 10 September with Gavin Thompson from VOX.
- Are you ready for some fun? Listen closely… Kind2Hearing would like to invite you to our new and fun game event, Listening2Bingo. Get your ears ready and join us on Wednesday, 11 September at 9:30am in the Bistro to find out what it is all about! Bring yourself, your partner, your friends and neighbours – we cannot wait to hear from you!”
- Sunday Roast Lunch on Sunday, 15 September at 12:30pm. R180pp. Mrs Yvonne Whitford will be preparing a fish braai. We kindly request that you book and pay for your lunch by no later than 3pm on Thursday, 12 September with Reception on Ext 300. Should you require any further information please contact Yvonne Whitford on Ext 114.
- Save the date! Lainey Boonzaier and Len Ward will be presenting ‘Hope and Glory’, a tribute to Vera Lynn – The Forces Sweetheart and Dame of the British Empire, on Wednesday, 18 September at 5:30pm. Please RSVP with Reception on Ext 300 by Friday, 13 September. Drinks and snacks will be served.

Village Housekeeping
- FTTH – We have reached the end of our installation to retro-fit the village. Frogfoot have worked hard to make sure they meet the deadline. There are a few houses that have not yet had the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) box installed but we believe this will should not delay “going live” for the rest of the village. The ONT device connects the fibre to your home modem. We have arranged for VOX to do a presentation to those residents who are interested in pursuing fibre option.
- Generator – As previously mentioned, the next project we are embarking on is the installation of a generator in the village. We shall send out a circular next week giving more information on delivery and installation timelines.

Herman Poelmann won the August Raffle. Don’t forget to buy your Monthly raffle tickets which are available at reception. The next monthly draw will be held at the Social Dinner on Tuesday, 24 September.
