What’s happening next week 16/01/2017 – 22/01/2017

We would like to wish Marie Van der Ross (Unit 19) a Happy Birthday for Thursday, 19 January.

Our Social Dinner will take place on Tuesday, 17 January at 6:30pm for 7:00pm in the Clubhouse. We are serving a choice of Chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce OR Fish cakes with tartar sauce & lemon both served with chips and seasonal vegetables. This will be followed by a Peach melba. We kindly request that you book and pay Andréa on Ext 300 by no later than 12pm on Monday, 16 January 2017. Unfortunately no late bookings can be accepted and there will be no refund in the event of a no-show.  We had an incident last week about the meal served I urge you to sign off on your chosen meal when you pay for dinner at reception.  Please make every effort to pay for your meal by Tuesday afternoon. In this way we can be sure to give the correct instructions to Rambling Rose and thereby ensure that everyone is happy with their meal choice.

TechTalk Coffee Break – An Q & A will be held in the clubhouse on Monday, 16 January at 10:30am – 11:30am. Kyle Knight will answer any questions you may have on “tech stuff”.

Don’t forget the popular Music Evenings will resume on Wednesday, 18 January at 7:00pm. The January programme features Daniel Barenboim performing Frederic Chopin at the Warsaw Philharmonic Concert Hall in February 2010. Please let Herman Poelmann (Ext 115) know that you wish to attend for seating and catering (light snacks) will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own refreshments.

We had a lovely time last Friday taking a moment to pause and be mindful with the act of colouring in and filling the page with colour, the feel of the pencil in your hand as you meditate on the beauty of the whole illustration – is particularly suited to mindful meditation.  Our next Mindful Colour-In Club will take place on Friday, 20 January at 10:00am. All colouring pencils, crayons and drawing sheets will be provided, but if you have your own, please bring them.

The transformative power of classical music - Join us in the Clubhouse on Wednesday, 25 January at 11h00 and enjoy this video presentation. Benjamin Zander has two infectious passions: classical music, and helping us all realize our untapped love for it —and by extension, our untapped love for all new possibilities, new experiences, new connections. Since 1979, Zander has been the conductor of the Boston Philharmonic. He is known around the world as both a guest conductor and a speaker on leadership --and he's been known to do both in a single performance. He uses music to help people open their minds and create joyful harmonies that bring out the best in themselves and their colleagues.

Bookings are open for the our Japanese Theme Dinner which is to be held on Friday, 27 January. A wonderful evening is planned. On the menu, we have Tokyo spring rolls with a sweet chilli dipping sauce. A choice of oyster beef or citrus chicken served with fragrant rice, sprouting broccoli and fine beans with a toasted sesame and soya dressing followed by candied ginger ice-cream. We kindly request that you book and pay Andréa on Ext 300 by no later than 12pm on Tuesday, 24 January 2017. The cost is R150 per person.

Forthcoming Events:

  *   Our first Men’s Breakfast for the year will take place on Thursday, 09 February at 9am. Please book with Andréa on Ext 300 by no later than Tuesday, 07 February.
  *   Ageless Grace takes place every Thursday morning at 10:00am – come and try this amazing movement class yourself and see how it works.
  *   Lucky Draw - R50 buys you three raffle tickets for the monthly lucky draw to be held on Tuesday, 31 January!

Also please note that the official swimming season is in full swing and we ask residents to adhere to the Pool Rules, which we attach for your perusal. As we are trying to conserve water, we will more often than not have the pool covered. Please just call reception or security and we will remove the cover so that you can enjoy your swim.
