Precautions SANBS is taking owing to the COVID19 Lockdown:

Donor Screening and Activation
On arrival, a donor is greeted at the door by a staff member who is wearing PPE (namely; a visor, mask and apron).
The temperature of the donor is taken at the door using a digital thermometer and has to answer a series of questions on a screening form to help with ascertaining safety for you to enter the donation area.
After the screening, when cleared the donor fills out a donation questionnaire on a table that has 2 chairs that are 2 meters apart in case of more than 1 donor.
>From here, the donor has their blood pressure and iron levels checked by a health care professional. This particular individual also always wears the above mentioned PPE. A new set gloves and lancet needle are used for each and every donor.
The donor will proceed to the donation bed. All the beds are sanitized with alcohol wipes after every donation. The person taking the blood wears PPE and uses a new set of gloves for each donor. A sanitizer spray and wipes are placed all around the donation area and used throughout the procedure and in between donors.
At the end of the donation, the donor is given sanitizer to spray their hands before exiting the donation area.
