[Evergreen Muizenberg]

        Dear Residents,

We currently have different categories of care in the Village:


  1.  Home-based Care / Assisted living - provided by Evergreen Health staff within the home on a fee-for-service basis
  2.  Frail Care - Provided in our Care Centre, intended for residents who require 24/7 care
  3.  Dementia care - a specialised care which we currently cater for in our Care Centre.
  4.  Emergency Care - by means of our Telecare care station
We have had a number of talks on the workings of the Telecare, the last one being 1 June 2020.
Unfortunately these are poorly attended as residents do not, for some unknown reason, see this as a priority.

I would like to again go over the communication process of the Telecare unit and the emergency response procedure.

Every Evergreen Muizenberg home has been equipped with a Telecare care station which is linked to a 24/7 Call Centre.
This Telecare unit is your signal to us that you are in a Medical Emergency situation and must be used for this.


  1.  Push the RED button on your Telecare once, very firmly, do not press any other buttons on the system as this will

then cancel your emergency call.

Please do not use the phone during this process, it will also cancel the emergency call. The 'dial-out' uses the same line



  1.  Within 45 seconds the Call Centre operator will speak to you establishing your emergency.



  1.  Depending on the severity of the injury, an ambulance will immediately be dispatched.
Other important points to remember


  *   The "morning call" - the BLUE button on your Telecare unit will flash at the time you have stipulated, press the BLUE

button to confirm that you are safe.



  *   If you are not going to be home at that time please inform the reception desk.



  *   Do not press the YELLOW button (Nurse Call) if you are experiencing an Emergency.
  *   We routinely check the functioning of the Telecare units, the onus is still on you, the resident, to test the unit regularly,

at least every fortnight.

Push the RED button and wait for the Call Centre to respond, when they come on line simply state that you are testing

your Telecare Unit.
