        Dear Resident,

Just a reminder on the importance of this talk that we have arranged for you, and
specifically the subject, "When do you need to appoint a curator ?"
(from Latin: cura, meaning "to take care")

As we get on in years we slowly lose some of our facilities, the optimal
functioning of our minds is arguably the most important. With this come legal
implications and personal complications.

Below I have posed some questions, made statements and definitions so as
to pique your interest in this subject.


  *   A person is deemed to be incompetent when they no longer display the ability
            to make decisions that are in their best interests.

  *   In order for another person to be appointed to act on behalf of this individual

and administer his or her estate, an application for curatorship can be made in

one of two ways: a curatorship application to the High Court or an application

to the Master of the High Court.

  *   No person can make a Will while he is in such a state of mind, whether arising

from intoxication or from illness or from any other cause, so that he does not

know what he is doing.

  *   One appointed to act as guardian of the estate of a person not legally competent

to manage.

  *   What does it mean to be put under curatorship ?
  *   Curatorship - what does it entail ?
  *   What is the differences between a Curator, Executor and an Administrator ?
  *   Is a Power of Attorney still legal / valid if I am incapacitated or under curatorship ?
  *   What are my rights if my spouse is under curatorship ?
