What's happening next week: 1 September to 7 September

As we come to the end of winter I think all of us concur that it has been a long one and looking forward to the end.
Looking ahead I see we still have a week of under 20 degrees, it warms up again next week end. However when it comes to forecasting the weather I remembered a quote, not sure who said it.

"But who wants to be foretold the weather? It is bad enough when it comes, without our having the misery of knowing about it beforehand."

  *   Our Annual General Meeting is to be held on Tuesday, 3 September in the Lifestyle Centre.

Nominations for Residents Committee members has closed. Nine residents have put their hands up to represent you on the residents committee.
         Remember to set time aside for a celebratory drink and snacks after the AGM to socialise with your fellow residents. Please RSVP at reception.



  *   On Monday 2 September at 10.30am we will be celebrating Arbor Week by planting a Tree Aloe (Aloedendron barberae)  kindly donated by White Cliffs, our garden service providers.

Please join us just outside the Lifestyle Centre and witness this great initiative.


  *   EXBLOX is with us again on Tuesday 3 September. I want to encourage residents to participate, this has some amazing benefits.
Improves dexterity, improves memory, mental & physical stimulation, give it a try. R50.00 per session, please book at reception and meet in the Library area at 11.00am.


  *   Movie for this week, Wednesday evening is "Suite Francaise".

Synopsis - Her husband away at war, a lonely Frenchwoman (Michelle Williams) begins a tentative romance with the refined German soldier (Matthias Schoenaerts) who has taken up residence in her mother-in-law's house. Don't forget the Snack Supper on a Wednesday, to be booked Tuesday 4pm.

  *   Kind2Hearing for their normal audiology testing will be with us on Thursday 5th , please let reception know. The testing takes place in the Boardroom.
          Please book at the Bistro by dialling 2253.



  *   On Thursday 5th from 09h00 in the Lifestyle Centre we have our ever-popular Market Day organised by the folks on the 'other side of the mountain'.

Goodies for sale include homemade jams, cheeses, chocolates, breads and a lot more.........



  *   Book Club meet again for their monthly get-together on Thursday 5th at 3pm in the lounge.Our usual Pub Evening on Friday 6th September will have an added reason to attend, Keith Jewell will be at the keyboard entertaining from 4.15pm
Request to please bring new books. Enjoy for tea/coffee/cake for R12.00. Proceeds go to a worthy outreach literature project. All welcome.



  Forthcoming events:

  *   "Are you ready for some fun ? Listen closely... Kind2Hearing would like to invite you to a new and fun game event, Listening2Bingo. Get your ears ready and join them at 10.30am on 10 September in the lifestyle Centre to find out what it is all about.

  *   Friday 13 September (lucky for some) we have a fantastic day drip to Postberg Flower Reserve up the West Coast organised. Experience the splendour of this annual occurrence that only lasts for one month.

The shuttle will depart form Muizenberg at 9.00am and return at 4.00pm. Cost R170.00, which includes a packed lunch. Please book and pay at Reception, only 13 seats available.

  *   Bingo of the "normal kind", on Thursday 12 September, makes a popular return. All welcome, join in for a sociable evening.
  *   Our very own Evergreen Muizenberg Choir, who have been hard at practice every week will be performing for us. Together with the Capricorn School Choir they will be giving a performance in the lifestyle centre at 10am. Please support this what promises to be a lovely event.
  *   Harold Cox from Kenilworth Travel and their marketing manager will be doing a presentation on Avalon Waterways, who specialise in river cruises throughout the world. Come for a cup of tea and cake and listen to what they have to say.

  *   Keep Saturday 26 October open for our Annual Evergreen Muizenberg Craft Market which will kick off at 2pm. Those who wish to contribute to the fantastic fund raising event, please take a minute and complete the reply slip next to the notice board. Don't forget to look for all your unwanted items for their "White Elephant" stall. It can be glassware, crockery, chinaware, practically anything. Please drop off these items at reception. The proceeds from the market go to the SPCA

  *   FTTH - The majority of you have by now had the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) box fitted, this devise connects the fibre to your home modem.

We to go 'live' next week.

Those residents who now want fibre need to decide on an Internet Service provider (ISP), contact them and sign up. There will be a delay for your personal connection as you fall in a queue to get the home modem.
Those of you who have not had the ONT box installed will be contacted by Reception or Maintenance.


  *   Painting of underground parking bays and numbers continues over this weekend. Some of you might be contacted to move your cars for a short while, please co-operate.


  *   Back of House. Please be reminded that no residents should go to the 'back of house' area. This includes the Laundry and Maintenances office. This area can be dangerous as it is a high usage area. A resident recently had a very bad fall which resulted in a visit to the Care Centre. The laundry has a collection and drop off service, just call 2255. All maintenance issued must be logged at reception who in turn will give it to maintenance.
