In his address last night, the president announced that the first batch of vaccines has arrived in the country.

The country's vaccine strategy states that in the Phase 1 health workers will be prioritised, followed by essential workers (teachers, police, municipal workers and other frontline personnel as well as people in institutions like old age homes, shelters) and then our senior citizens - people over 60 years of age and over 18 years of age with co-morbidities. Lastly, Phase 3 aims to vaccinate the remaining adult population.

Government has launched South Africa's Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS), the platform that will eventually allow everyone in South Africa to register for a vaccine. There will be extensive communication to inform citizens through different platforms such as TV, Radio and Social Media; Professional Organisations; HCW Employers and Labour Unions.

However, if you wish to get the Covid-19 vaccine then please add your name to the list at the clinic as soon as possible to ensure that we have sufficient vaccines for everyone in the village.

We are also ordering the Flu vaccine and the Pneumonia vaccine, please indicate on the list if you wish to have these administered as well.

In addition, we attach a booklet received from the Department of Health about the Coronavirus and the vaccine, we thought may be of interest to you and your family.

This is a very important step for South Africa. It must be noted however, that all residents should still adhere to social distancing and health protocols at all times. We must not become complacent.
