[Evergreen Bergvliet] ELV BGV>Circular 10 - COVID-19/Maintain Social Distance/Self-Quarantine

        Dear Resident

It would appear that many of our residents have still not grasped the severity of the Covid19 pandemic.  It is indeed a crisis. Our situation is not unique and many have introduced similar and even more stringent protocols to safe-guard the health of their villages, communities, cities or countries.

Our hospitals, ICUs and ERs are often taxed on a "good day." There is an issue of not having enough equipment and beds for those who may become deathly ill from this virus. So, it is imperative that all of us do our part to maintain our social distance, to stay away from as much public contact as possible over the next 2 -3 weeks. We want the people who will need the ICU beds and equipment to be able to receive that level of care. So, taking this seriously and doing our part, is acting responsibly.

The President recently announced the introduction of the Disaster Management Act and ELV Bergvliet put the following measures in place to minimise the spread of the virus to safeguard our residents and staff and to practice social distancing/self-quarantine:
*           All visitors will be directed to the screening station located at reception in the clubhouse before being allowed to proceed to the residents' homes. If you are expecting visitors or essential services, please advise them in advance to expect this.
*           Should their temperature be higher than 37.5 degrees, which indicates an illness, they will be denied access to your home and advised to self-quarantine.
*           All social events in the clubhouse have been cancelled for the next 14 days.
*           All maintenance in the village, contract work by third party contractors, has been stopped unless it is an emergency.
*           Whitecliffs garden services and Western Province Catering services have been suspended for the next 14 days - no meals or refreshments will be offered in the clubhouse.
*           Evergreen has introduced a skeleton staff and therefore domestic and utility services in private homes have been cancelled.
*           Critical and essential health care workers and care givers may continue services to those in need.
*           Grinnell Security will continue to control access to the village and provide peace of mind.
*           Village Management will alternate their presence in the village and can be contacted by email or cell phone. Please limit visits to the clubhouse.

With the recent early closure of all schools, please, if possible, avoid looking after your grandchildren during this time. Grandparents are at a greater risk of catching the illness from children and, in particular, they are at a greater risk of serious consequences if they do fall ill.

The more we isolate/self-quarantine/maintain social distance in the village over the next few weeks, the better our chances of prevention and the better chance we have of flattening the curve.

Remember, wash your hands, don't touch your face, stay at home and stay healthy.
