COVID-19 – Festive Season/Family Celebration

It was reported on the media that Government is to assess lockdown restrictions as South Africa hits 10,000 daily Covid-19 cases. Health minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says that South Africa is experiencing exponential growth in daily Covid-19 cases, and that the government will look at further restrictions ‘as required’ to address this increase.
On Wednesday the country reported over 10,000 daily Covid-19 cases for the first time since August, and the peak of its first coronavirus wave. Mkhize said that the Western Cape leads the way when it comes to new Covid-19 infections, with the province breaching the 3,000 mark in daily cases for the first time this week.
The president warned South African in his National address on Tuesday night “that if we do not do things differently this festive season, we will greet the new year not with joy, but with sorrow. Many of our friends, relatives and co-workers will be infected, some will get severely ill and some, tragically, will die. Unless we do things differently, this will be the last Christmas for many, many South Africans” warned the President.

I know that we are all excited about celebrating this festive season with our families after such a hard year and to bring some light and joy into our lives. Some of you are planning to travel to other parts of the country to spend the time with your children and grandchildren whilst some residents are staying at home and hosting celebrations.

Just to remind you what our village COVID-19 protocols are for family members and visitors:


·           - All visitors will have to be screened at the security guardhouse on entering the village. Visitors will have their temperatures recorded as well as be sanitised and will need to provide contact details. This is to ensure we have accurate traceability in the event of infection.

·           - Family members and close friends may enter the village to visit residents in their homes. Grandchildren (under 18’s) may be allowed to visit and we respectfully request that once inside the village that they do not leave your unit.

·           - We recommend that there are only six people in your home (including yourselves/visitors) at any one time. We strongly recommend that visitors keep their masks on at all times and that even in your homes you maintain the 2-meter distancing protocol.

·           - All visitors must wear three-ply cloth masks at ALL times and remember to wash hands and sanitise regularly.

·           - A note that there is a national curfew in effect from, 11pm to 4am
