I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and spent time with their loved ones over the festive season. We welcome in the new year and I look forward to what 2019 has in store for us.

Our Social Dinner on Tuesday, 8 January will start at 6:30pm in the Clubhouse. We will be serving Beef Curry & Rice OR Fish & Chips both served with seasonal vegetables. This will be followed by Lemon Meringue Pie and tea/coffee. Please note the price increase to R140pp. We kindly request that you book and pay at reception or call Ext 300 by no later than Monday, 07 January. You are welcome to bring your own refreshments.

We would like to wish the following residents a Happy Birthday: 2nd January, Dave Orton (Unit 31) and 6th January, Charlie Momsen (Unit 16).

Movie Night – A Good Year will be shown on Saturday, 5 January at 7pm. A London banker, Max Skinner (Russell Crowe) inherits his uncle's (Albert Finney) vineyard in Provence, where he spent many childhood holidays. He discovers a new laid-back lifestyle as he tries to renovate the estate to be sold. On his arrival, he meets a woman (Abbie Cornish) from California who tells Max she is his long-lost cousin and that the property is hers.

Evergreen would like to invite all our residents to join management and staff for Sundowners, live music and snacks on the patio at the clubhouse on Thursday, 10 January at 6pm. Please call Andréa at reception on Ext 300 to book for catering purposes.

Our first Bingo evening in 2019 will be held on Friday 11 January at 6pm in the Clubhouse. A light supper will be served. You are welcome to bring your own liquid refreshments. There will be some lovely prizes on offer. Please call reception on Ext 300 to book.

This month’s theme dinner, Burns Night on Friday, 27 January at 6:30pm will celebrate the famous poet Robert Burns.  Born in Ayrshire in 1759, Burns is Scotland's national bard. Affectionately known as 'the Ploughman Poet', his verses stand as a fitting testament to Scotland's proud literary history.  Please note that dressing up is not obligatory. Please book and pay for dinner at reception by no later than Tuesday, 22 January or call Andréa on Ext 300 for further information.

A few housekeeping issues:

-       Roshaan Solomons, our maintenance/ handyman is still on leave and will return on Monday, 21 January. If you have any urgent items please let me know and I will get it sorted out with a contractor otherwise we’ll allocate the maintenance jobs on his return.

-       The Village security gate will close at 8pm each night. To make your access easier it was suggested that residents call the village landline (after hours) on 021 713 7860 or phone the security cell phone number 072 859 2143 in advance to alert them of your return. This will allow them to open the gate for quick access to the village.

-       It has been reported that a number of residents are accessing the village via the exit boom gate as they are impatient whilst the vehicle in front of them is being signed in. This is dangerous and could cause an accident, not only with other vehicles but also pedestrians who are going on their walks. There have been a number of near misses. Under no circumstances must any resident use the exit to gain entrance to the village.

-       Please remember to pick up after your dog on your walks and place it in the bins provided. This is respectful of the community you share.

-       Our speed limit is 20Km per hour. Please don’t go any faster.

-       Please do send us a note to let us know when you are going away. This will alleviate us worrying about you when the “blue button” has not been pressed
