<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in"><span lang="EN-ZA">The Melrose Arch Crit is South Africa’s premium criterium race. Presented in August every year at Melrose Arch, the event caters for all levels and age categories of riders, from children to elite
athletes. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in"><span lang="EN-ZA">Racing takes place over a 1km circuit within the precinct, making it a safe and spectator-friendly event. The 2019 event is CSA sanctioned and takes place on Sunday, 18 August.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in"><span lang="EN-ZA">(Criterium racing is a form of road cycling that takes place on an enclosed street circuit in urban areas. Riders race over a predetermined time plus one additional lap after the time period has
elapsed. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in"><span lang="EN-ZA">Time periods are determined by age group and level of proficiency. Circuits are about 1,3km to 2km in length, with many corners and fast straights. The Melrose Arch route is 1km.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in"><span lang="EN-ZA">This format brings cycling very close to spectators and attracts large crowds. Viewing is very accessible.)<o:p></o:p></span></p>
