[Evergreen Muizenberg] COVID19 – Vaccine Registration Update 24 March 2021

There is still much confusion regarding the COVID-19 vaccine registration process.

There have been some people who have been able to complete an on-line registration via the
Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS), the platform used to register for the vaccine roll-out in
South Africa. Please note that this is currently set up for healthcare workers only and unless you are
a registered health care worker with a registration number do not try and register. Just because the
system allows you to provide your details does not mean they will consider your application.
Evergreen Health has registered all our healthcare workers on the EVDS.

During the first phase of the roll-out, vaccines will and are only being administered to healthcare
workers. Dr Zweli Mkhize, Minister of Health, reported that the number of health care workers
vaccinated to date stand at 194 257. At this stage a very slow and laborious process when you think
that we have 1,2 million citizens in the sector.  Phase 2 of the vaccine roll-out, which targets essential
workers, persons over 60-years (that’s us) and persons over 18-years with co-morbidities, registration
will be announced once the majority of the healthcare workers are done and more vaccines have been
secured.

For now, please be patient until we are advised that Phase 2 will commence and then you will be able
to self-register on the database. Village management will also be available to assist residents who need
assistance to register. The allocation of vaccines will be administered through the EVDS at a location to
be decided upon by the government. We are hoping to be one of these locations so as to mitigate any
unnecessary travel and inconvenience.

Our Evergreen Health team are in constant contact with the Department of Health and will continue
giving us updates regarding the vaccine.

The good news is that covid infections have plateaued, with just over a thousand infections per day and
our active cases sitting at 21 506. We are being constantly reminded and warned that we are going to
experience a third wave, I think it is inevitable that this will happen, the timing of which we are not sure.
Some virologist believe as soon as Easter as it is a traditional time for family and friends to get together,
sometimes referred to a ‘super-spreader’ event. Others are saying more towards winter, around June.

We urge everyone to continue to follow all our covid safety protocols.

  *   social distance of 2m, in a confined space keep an extra distance,
  *   wear a 3-ply cloth mask, it is still the best
  *   if you have been in contact with anyone who has tested positive or you are not feeling well let
us know, stay at home we will come to you.
