[Evergreen Muizenberg] COVID-19 Vaccine update, flu and pneumonia vaccine orders

        Dear Resident,

Even through the bungling of our government and Department of Health, yesterday
was a momentous day in our country and the fight against the COVID-19 virus, the
arrival of the first batch of vaccines.

According to media reports the vaccine roll out will be as follows (timelines might change)

Phase 1, by mid-February, will focus on frontline healthcare workers

Phase 2, by mid-year, will vaccinate essential workers, (teachers, police, prisons, security)
persons in congregate settings, persons over 60 years (that's us !!) and persons over 18
years with co-morbidities.

Phase 3, we expect only at the end of the year and into 2022, will focus on persons 18 to 60
years old.

The self-registration platform is now open for healthcare workers. In the phase 2 roll out plan,
around May, residents would be able to self-register. There will be more than enough time to register
and we will be here for anybody who might need help with this process. It might be an idea to
discuss the vaccine with your general practitioner and family well in advance in order to decide
whether you would like to be vaccinated or not.

Before this, we are ordering the annual flu vaccine as well as the Pneumovox vaccine (for the
prevention of pneumonia) To order one of these or both vaccines, there is a list at reception. Please
indicate on the list and sign next to your name. This is just to give us an indication of numbers. These
vaccines will arrive towards the end of February and the administration of them in the beginning of March.

Please also find attached a very informative booklet, produced by the department of health, on the
COVID-19 virus and the vaccine.
