[Evergreen Muizenberg] 15 December 2021 : COVID-19 update in the village

        Dear Resident,

I trust you have all had a good week so far, I have, I am feeling very positive with life at the moment, I try and
surround myself with positive people, staff, friends and engage with positive residents.

We have unfortunately had a few more resident and staff testing positive for covid and are now isolating.

  *   Audrey and Paul Selby, fluish, not feeling so good.
  *   Audrey Marshall, blocked up, but feeling good

  *   Shirley and Vanessa from the Laundry.

We wish the residents and laundry staff a speedy and safe recovery.

In total we have nine residents and five staff who are isolating and am pleased to inform you that none are anywhere
near critical, all have or have had flu symptoms, blocked nose, sore throat, mild headaches and dry cough.

I received an interesting mail from Discovery Health today, South Africa's largest private health insurance administrator,
with more than 3.7 million health clients. I am sure many of you also did. I would like to share some of the salient points -

  *   Omicron now estimated to account for over 90% of new infections nationally, fuelling the fourth wave, its severity

relative to prior variants seems less (fewer hospital admissions and a lower proportion of high care and ICU admissions)

  *   Vaccination remains effective in protecting against severe COVID-19 and consequent hospital admission, underscoring

the importance of vaccinating. Two-dose Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination provides significant protection against

hospitalisation in individuals with Omicron variant infection

  *   Overall, the risk of reinfection following prior infection has increased over time, with Omicron resulting in significantly in

higher rates of reinfection compared to prior variants.

  *   The majority of those requiring hospitalisation, exceeding 75%, are unvaccinated.
  *   Two-dose Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination provides significant protection against hospitalisation in individuals with Omicron

variant infection

Discovery have issued a caveat with their report "Importantly, these preliminary findings relate to the very early period of the

Omicron outbreak and could change with the extension of the wave"

You have heard this all before, it is worth repeating.
Be responsibility, don't attend social gatherings and don't venture out the village if you are not feeling well or unsafe.

  *   If you are showing any flu-like symptoms stay at home and isolate. If you would like to be tested, contact

the office

  *   If any of you are nervous about what is going on around you and what you are reading or hearing across

the different media platforms, stay at home and isolate.

  *    wear a three ply cloth mask when in company, covering both nose and mouth.
  *   sanitise and wash your hands regularly and thoroughly.
  *   practice 'social distancing', a distance of at least 2m / 6ft
