[Evergreen Muizenberg] 6 December 2021 : COVID-19 update in the village

        Dear Resident,

I trust you all had a lovely week-end. We even had some welcome summer rain, we have already
doubled last year's December rainfall.

A brief update on the results of the covid-19 test administered over the week-end. We did a total
of 11 tests in-house, seven residents and four staff members. While the good news is that
10 results came up negative we had a resident test positive.

  *   Maureen Elliot, after displaying flu-like symptoms got herself tested. She is currently

doing well, has a 'scratchy' throat and a bit lethargic. She is isolating.

Some residents have come forward who were in contact with Maureen in the last few days.
The message remains the same, isolate yourself, if you are not feeling well, contact the office
and our medical staff will assess.

  *   Update on Alice Grant, she is feeling much better and in high spirits.

We wish both these ladies a safe and speedy recovery

As the latest outbreak continues we are getting a clearer picture. Nationally, while the infection
rate continues to rise, hospitalisation and deaths remain low. Admissions this time around seem
to be effecting younger people. The clinical picture is significantly different to the first three waves.
The medical fraternity think this is because of mass social gatherings and the low level of
vaccinations amongst younger persons. An interesting statistic from the Steve Biko Academic
Hospital, of the eight patients with covid pneumonia all are unvaccinated. More proof that the
vaccination prevents you from getting seriously ill and being hospitalised.
Please continue to be remain vigilant especially when out of the village and in public spaces.

3 December 2021 : COVID-19 update in the village

Dear Resident,

I am sure you are all aware of the recent rapid increase in new positive covid-19 cases.
The latest mutation which has become known as the Omicron variant was identified on the
25th November by scientists right here in South Africa and has since been detected in more
than 20 countries around the world

While the increase in cases has not yet officially being declared as the so called "forth wave",
I believe it is only a matter of days. Data on hand is too recent to form an educated opinion,
however it looks like this variant to more contagious, but because of the vaccination programme,
has not led to many hospitalisation cases or deaths.

We have unfortunately not managed to remain unscathed and am sorry to inform you that we
have a resident who has tested positive for the covid-19 virus.

  *   Alice Grant, after not feeling well and displaying flu like symptoms was tested yesterday.

I can tell you that while Alice is still feeling the effects of flu she is doing well.

We wish her a speedy recovery and a safe isolation period.

Just today RN Lorraine Powell has conducted a further four covid-19 tested on residents displaying
flu like symptoms. We await the results.

All of us have become a little complacent, this has come as a "wake-up" call.
Personally I think this virus will be with us for a while yet.

The golden rules -

  *   wear a three ply cloth mask when in company.
  *   sanitise and wash your hands regularly and thoroughly.
  *   practice 'social distancing', a distance of at least 2m / 6ft
  *   if you in any way feel unsafe, rather stay at home.

Again, if you have been in contact with anyone who has tested positive or you are not
feeling well let us know, stay at home we will come to you.
