What’s happening next week: 8 September to 15 September

I would like to congratulate you on the fantastic residents’ turnout we had at the AGM, I counted 180 residents, it’s great that we have so many residents interested in their village, how it is run and operates.

Secondly, I would like to extend my congratulation to the elected Residents Committee members (ResCom), a good 50/50 split between the apartments and houses

At the next ResCom meeting, Tuesday 10 September, elected members will get nominated and a vote will take place, if necessary, between the members. If there is a particular elected member you would like to see as the ResCom chairman I suggest you canvass one of the elected members and make it known who you would like as chairman.
Please submit any comments or questions for this meeting to reception.

I will also be away on leave from 9 September, back in the village on 1 October. In my absence the village will be managed by Chantelle, the assistant village manager, assisted by our duty managers, our maintenance team and the ladies at reception. Please contact her for any queries you might have.

“What’s Happening” will also take a break, please consult the activity calendar or ask at reception.

Coming up in the next week:-

  *   Come along on Monday 9th to the lifestyle centre from 10am to see Tabito Fashions late spring and new summer lines.

  *   Kind2Hearing are inviting you to a new and fun game event, Listening2Bingo. Get your ears ready and join them at 10.30am on Tuesday 10 September in the lifestyle Centre to find out what it is all about. It’s free and there are some great prizes to be won. Please book at reception for seating arrangements.

  *   Also on Tuesday at 2.30pm join Hydle de Villiers at THE monthly Chit-Chat in the lifestyle centre. An excellent initiative started by Hydle to welcome new residents to Muizenberg. Enjoy a cup of tea and something sweet whilst mingling with fellow residents, all residents welcome, especially our new ‘newbies’.

  *   Join the Garden Club / Committee (known as the “Greenies”) on Wednesday 11th at around 10.00am when we start our own vegetable and herb garden. A very exciting initiative, they will be planting in 1.5m squared pallets, with the help of “Soil for Life” , vegetables such as beetroot, pakchoi, spinach and a variety of herbs, like chives, coriander, sweet basil to name a few.

  *   Bingo of the “normal kind”, on Thursday 12 September. A nominal fee of R30.00 is payable, which goes towards prizes and catering. Please book by Wednesday and pay at reception. All welcome……encourage our new residents to join for a lovely evening

  *   Movie on Sunday 15th is “Mary Queen of Scots”, released in 2018 and awarded an Academy for “Best Costume Design” Movie starts at 6pm at the TV Lounge.

Synopsis - Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary Stuart defies pressure to remarry. Instead, she returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. However, Scotland and England fall under the rule of the compelling Elizabeth I. Each young Queen beholds her sister in fear and fascination. Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus independence.
   Forthcoming events:

  *   Our very own Evergreen Muizenberg Choir, will be performing with the Capricorn School Choir. Please support this great event on Wednesday 18th at 10am in the lifestyle centre. You can catch the choir every second Monday in the gym area for a sneak preview.

  *   On Tuesday 17th join Shannon and her unique concept of “Leave your Legacy”. Here Shannon will help you design and formulate books that you can hand down to family or friends, something that will last forever……….correction, only diamonds are forever !!

  *   EXBLOX is with us again on Tuesday 17 September. I want to encourage residents to participate, this has some amazing benefits.
Improves dexterity, improves memory, mental & physical stimulation, give it a try. R50.00 per session, please book at reception and meet in the Library area at 11.00am.

  *   Join Harold Cox from Kenilworth Travel and their marketing manager on Thursday 19th  at the TV Area for a presentation on Avalon Waterways, they specialise in river cruises throughout the world. Come for a cup of tea and cake and listen to some of the exotic destinations they have to offer.

  *   Heritage Day or now as it has become known “Braai Day” on Tuesday 24 September, where we celebrate our heritage. Our caterers, WPC, have laid on a braaied meal for lunch, enjoy a chicken kebab, boerewors with side dishes. Come early, stand around the braai, comment and give advice, just like a typical South African male.

Those residents who want to braai on their own, please feel free to use the gas braai’s provided.

  *   Remember Saturday 26 October for our Annual Evergreen Muizenberg Craft Market which will kick off at 2pm in the lifestyle centre. Those who wish to contribute to the fantastic fund-raising event, please take a minute and complete the reply slip next to the notice board. Don’t forget to look for all your unwanted items for their “White Elephant” stall. Please drop off these items at reception.

There is also a raffle for a Christmas Hamper. Please contact Denise Elkin, apartment 320, to donate something ‘you would like to receive’ in a hamper. Items will be collected on Friday 4 October in the library and tickets for sales from Monday 7th. The draw will take place at the Craft Market. The proceeds from the market go to the SPCA, a very worthy cause.

  Village General

  *   FTTH – All of you have by now had the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) box fitted, this devise connects the fibre to your home modem. Thanks you for your co-operation during this installation phase. Fibre in the village is now ‘live’.

Those residents who now want fibre need to decide on an Internet Service provider (ISP), contact them and sign up. VOX is our preferred provider; reception has their details. Please be aware that there will be a delay for your personal connection as you will fall into a queue to get the home modem.

  *   On Monday we welcome Sister Lee Hampton as our village Sister and Care Centre manager. Sr. Hampton is relocating from Johannesburg and comes with a wealth of experience, both local and abroad. Please introduce yourself and give her a ‘Kaapse’ welcome.

  *   Back of House. Please be reminded that no residents should go to the ‘back of house’ area. This includes the Laundry and Maintenance office. This area can be dangerous as it is a high usage area. A resident recently had a very bad fall which resulted in a visit to the Care Centre. The laundry has a collection and drop off service, just call Shirley on 2255. All maintenance issued must be logged at reception who in turn will give it to maintenance.

  *   Another reminder regarding our refuse pick up service, refuse and recyclables are to be put be out only in the mornings and before 8.30. It is not to be put out the night before. This is not only for the consideration of your neighbours but putting out refuse for a period of time might attract vermin and other undesirable insects.
