they may be disabled and not able to visit the voting station.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;mso-fareast-language:EN-US"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;mso-fareast-language:EN-US">In these circumstances the law governing elections makes provision for people to exercise a special vote but they must apply beforehand. It is important to note that
<b><span style="color:red">applications</span></b> for exercising a special vote <b>
<span style="color:red">close on Monday 4 October 2021</span></b>.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;mso-fareast-language:EN-US"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;mso-fareast-language:EN-US">Special voting takes place on Saturday 30 October and Sunday 31 October at your registered voting station, in the case of most residents this would be Sun Valley Primary School.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;mso-fareast-language:EN-US"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;mso-fareast-language:EN-US">The easiest method for residents who have already registered to vote and who are considering applying for a special vote would be to go to

https://www.elections.org.za/pw/specialVotes/about-special-vote</a> where they can find more information and also the online process they need to follow. There is another more complex process that involves filling in a form and physically getting the completed
form to the IEC offices in Athlone.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;mso-fareast-language:EN-US"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;mso-fareast-language:EN-US">I’m told that the process is much easier than the registration/change of address process. As with the registration/change of address process applicants should get an SMS or email
confirming receipt of their application. Further details regarding the process will then be sent to successful applicants.

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;mso-fareast-language:EN-US"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;mso-fareast-language:EN-US">A few points to note:<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<ol style="margin-top:0cm" start="1" type="1">
<li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0cm;mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;mso-fareast-language:EN-US">Once someone’s application for a special vote is successful they may not vote on voting day (Monday 1 November).<o:p></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0cm;mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;mso-fareast-language:EN-US">Residents are encouraged to vote at the voting station rather than have the IEC visit them. The IEC might be inundated with
applications for “home voting” (because of COVID) and may not have the manpower to get to everyone.<o:p></o:p></span></li></ol>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;mso-fareast-language:EN-US"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
