Subject: Dead Fish in the Lake

Dear Members and Residents,
Further to recent sightings of dead fish floating on the water and associated conversations on this amongst members, please be assured that the HOA, Encom and Lake Michelle Admin are aware of this and have been tirelessly working on investigating and addressing the matter together with an external specialist who is an expert on the subject matter.
Whilst we are awaiting detailed feedback, initial observations and opinions indicate that the current situation is as a result of a combination of factors, including mainly, but not limited to the current drought scenario which has resulted in low levels of fresh water flushing into the lake, a low dissolved oxygen content in the water and increased algae growth due to the heat and unsatisfactory water conditions.
The estate maintenance team are collecting dead fish regularly to ensure hygienic conditions on the lake and water samples have been sent to the lab for testing, the results of which will be available in the next day or two.
We would discourage residents from:

  *   making use the lake water for recreational purposes (this includes paddling, swimming, fishing and the like),
  *   to avoid ingesting any of the water,
  *   to advise their visitors when visiting to do the same and
  *   not to let their pets enter the water or eat the fish.
Should you see any dead fish on the water please do not take them out of the water, rather take photos and indicate position of the photo and please let the Admin Office know so that they can be be collected.
We will continue to monitor and address the situation and keep you informed.
