What’s Happening: 02/10/2023 – 08/10/2023

We would like to wish a very happy birthday to Margie Lee on 2nd October and Georgina Adonis on 7th October. We would also like to welcome our new resident, Michael Hoberman who has moved into Unit 211.

What’s Cooking:  Our full day breakfast is popular (not served between 12h00 – 13h00) and last food orders for Bistro must be in before 4pm during the week. There is only one lunch option is available on Saturdays. The Bistro is open until 5pm on weekdays and until 3pm over the weekend and on public holidays.

Activities coming up this week:
- General Knowledge/Hollywood Film & Musicals Quiz Night – will be held on TUESDAY, 3 October at 6pm. Please book with reception. Also, please order your sandwiches or snack with kitchen if you wish to snack during the evening.
- Sally Ann Creed will be presenting their range of products on Wednesday, 4th October in the Recreation Lounge at 11am. Sally-Ann Creed’s journey in the health and wellness industry was serendipitous. Having suffered from a variety of debilitating health conditions, Sally-Ann decided that she needed to take her wellness into her own hands. Join us to find out what is available to improve your health.
- Aqua-Aerobics will take place on Wednesday, 4th October from 10h30 – 11h30 with instructor Tanya. Please call Ext 1400 to add your name to the list at reception. Classes are R50 per session and can be paid in cash on the day.
- Shopping Transport will meet at Reception at 09h30 on THURSDAY, 5th October (not Tuesday this week). Cost is R50 per trip and will be added to your levy.
- Fellowship Group will be in the recreation room, Thursday, 05th October at 10h30 contact Mrs. J de Villiers (Ext 1504) or Mrs. Randall (Ext 1609).
- Thursday Tea & Cake on Thursday, for R25.00 at 3pm.
- Come join us for the Diep River Village Market on Friday, 6th October from 9am – 3pm. Lovely goodies on sale from baby clothing, jams, cards, ceramics, freshly squeezed juice, bagels and shoes, scarves, wooden furniture and much more. Invite your friends and family to visit and enjoy the day. For additional information or to book a table, please speak to Amanda George on Ext 1400/1406.
- HNA Active Aging Class connects with residents to exercise in the recreation room on Friday, 22nd September from 11am – 12-noon.
- Saturday Braai – Residents get together every Saturday evenings at 6pm.  Bring your own meat and refreshments and gather in the Bistro.
- Please join us to watch the RWC: Invite your friends to watch the SA vs TONGA on Sunday, 01 October at 9pm in the Bistro.  Snacks and Refreshments will be served.

Forthcoming Events:
- Shoe Lady pop-up shop will be set up in the Recreation Lounge on Monday, 9th October from 09h30 – 13h30 – Lovely affordable shoes will be available for summer! Pop in and see what’s on off.
- World Hospice & Palliative Care Day on Tuesday, 10th October is an annual unified day of action to celebrate and support hospice and palliative care around the world.
- SleepNet|BreatheNet, will do a presentation on Wednesday, 11 October in the recreation Lounge at 11am to discuss the cause of Sleep Apnea and how to assist you with home ventilation, neuro-diagnostic & oxygen supply issues.
- Rummikub afternoon was a great success. Please join us on Thursday, 12th and 26th October at 2pm in the Bistro. Rummikub is a tile-based game for up to 4 players, combining elements of the card game rummy and mahjong. It doesn’t matter that you don’t know how to play. We’ll all learn together. It was a whole lot of fun! ALL welcome. Please put your names down for seating arrangements. Call reception on Ext 1400.
- Howard Fairbank, a global adventurer will share his experiences and radical life story with our residents on Monday, 16 October at 11am in the Recreation Lounge. Please put your name down with reception on Ext 1400 for seating purp0ses.
- Coloring-In Mandalas – Join us for a calm creative afternoon in the Bistro on Tuesday, 17th October at 2pm -. Mandalas, Crayons and Koki’s will be supplied but if you have your own, please bring them along. Please book your seat with reception on Ext 1400

- Halloween Lunch – A special Halloween Menu will be available on Tuesday, 31 October – watch this space for more details.

Internal/External Work:
- Neil and his team have now completed the cracks and repairs in all the units and will be moving to Apartment 304 to do the refurbishment to prepare it for sale. Once this has been completed. He will move to the Fire Escape on the South Side and repair cracks and paint in this section.
- We have completed the laundry but still have a few finishing touches to do. Please book your machine time with Reception to avoid congestion. Georgina is able to assist where necessary.
- The staff room has also been completed and we are thrilled to have our own space.

Rugby World Cup 2023:  A RWC Score Tracker board has been placed on the wall in the Bistro to keep track of who’s doing what and how may points each team has. Please get dressed up in green and gold every Friday to cheer on our Springboks in the World Cup. All residents are invited to watch ALL the rugby matches in the Bistro. EPI have kindly sponsored a few snacks, juice & wine for each SA game played leading up to the RWC finals matches (see dates on poster) GO BOKKE!

It’s been a hectic week with the weather system with bad flood damage in the country. Our thoughts are with those people who are dealing with their personal and property loss.
