What’s Happening: 11/09/2023 – 17/09/2023

What’s Cooking:  Please see attached next week’s menu.  Our full day breakfast is popular (not served between 12h00 – 13h00) and last food orders for Bistro must be in before 4pm during the week. There is only one lunch option is available on Saturdays. The Bistro is open until 5pm on weekdays and until 3pm over the weekend and on public holidays.

Activities coming up this week:

  *   We’ll be holding the first Rummikub Afternoon (a tile-based game for 2 to 4 players, combining elements of the card game rummy and mahjong.) We encourage all to come down to the Bistro on Tuesday, 12th September at 2pm. It doesn’t matter that you don’t know how to play – we’ll have an introduction session! We’ll all learn together. It should be a whole lot of fun! ALL welcome. Please put your names down for seating arrangements. Call reception on Ext 1400.
  *   Aqua-Aerobics will take place on Wednesday, 13th September from 10h30 – 11h30 with instructor Tanya. Please call Ext 1400 to add your name to the list at reception. Classes are R50 per session and can be paid in cash on the day.
  *   Thursday Tea & Cake on Thursday, for R25.00 at 3pm.
  *   Shoe Lady pop-up shop will be set up in the Recreation Lounge on Thursday, 14th September from 09h30 – 13h30 – Lovely affordable shoes will be available for summer! Pop in and see what’s on off.
  *   HNA Active Aging Class connects with residents to exercise in the recreation room on Friday, 15th September from 11am – 12-noon.
  *   Charles Lang Wines – There will a Wine Tasting on Friday, 15th September at 3pm in the Bistro. A selection of reasonably priced red and white wines bottled exclusively for Charles Lang Wines will be on offer to residents at the village. The afternoon promises to be entertaining and festive. RSVP essential for numbers and seating
  *   Saturday Braai – Residents get together every Saturday evenings at 6pm.  Bring your own meat and refreshments and gather in the Bistro and watch the RWC Rugby.

Forthcoming Events:

  *   Let’s Talk” – Our Conversation Project will take place on 19th September in the Recreation Lounge at 2pm. All Welcome. Tea and Biscuits will be served.
  *   Bingo Night hosted by Margaret Hull (Ext 1716) on Wednesday, 20th September at 7pm. Entry fee R50 and you are welcome to bring your own refreshments.
  *   Fellowship Group will be in the recreation room, Thursday 21st September at 10h30 contact Mrs J de Villiers (Ext 1504) or Mrs. Randall (Ext 1609).
  *   Shopping Transport will meet at Reception at 09h30 on 19th September. Cost is R50 per trip and will be added to your levy account. If we have no bookings the day before, we will cancel the trip.
  *   The Naturally Pampered beautician will be back for Spa Treatments in the Sky Lounge on Thursday, 21st September at 09h30. Please book your individual appointment for your treatment directly with the beautician,  Lelhaam, on 0823967573 or with Reception Ext: 1400.
  *   Heritage Day Braai (public Holiday)  – The village will arrange a Lunch Braai on Monday 25th September as the weather will be a little warmer. A special braai menu will be available. Watch the Notice board for details.
  *   Coloring-In Mandalas – Join us for a calm creative afternoon in the Bistro on Tuesday, 26th September at 2pm -. Mandalas, Crayons and Koki’s will be supplied but if you have your own, please bring them along. Please book your seat with reception on Ext 140
  *   Hollywood Film & Musicals Quiz Night – will be held on Wednesday, 4th October at 6pm. Please book with reception. Poster to follow.
  *   Save the Date: a LIVE performance by “The Companions”  a group of senior entertainers will sing and dance on Wednesday, 27th September – Details to follow.
  *   Save the Date! Evergreen Diep River Market Day – 6th October – for additional information or to book a table, please speak to Amanda George on Ext 1400/1406. More details to follow.

Internal/External Work:

  *   Neil and his team have almost completed the 2nd floor and should be moving onto the 1st floor by next week. The Refurbishment Team have been fantastic and mindful of the residents.
  *   We have started the renovation work in the Laundry and Staff Room.  The two machines will be moved into the basement parking for the duration of the renovation. Georgina has been tasked to fetch, carry, dry and/or iron your laundry for you – please book your machine time with Reception to avoid congestion.

Rugby World Cup 2023: As DSTV insisted on changing their viewing packages and to ensure we had the sports channels, we had to upgrade one decoder and so all televised rugby games will take place in the Bistro for the duration of the Championship Diep River BOK Town. A RWC Score Tracker board has been placed on the wall to keep track of who’s doing what and how may points each team has. I have also attached an A4 version for your personal use. Please get dressed up in green and gold every Friday to cheer on our Springboks in the World Cup. Enjoy!
The start of the Rugby World Cup tonight is happening with the opening ceremony followed by France and NZ at 21h15. Lots of Games tomorrow as featured below. Invite your friends to watch the SA’s first game on Sunday, 17th September at 15h00 SA vs Romania in the Bistro.  All residents are invited to watch ALL the rugby matches in the Bistro. EPI have kindly sponsored a few snacks, juice & wine for each SA game played leading up to the RWC finals matches (see dates on poster) GO BOKKE!

Load Shedding has been ramped up to stage 6 and it’s going to be a cold, windy and wet weekend.
