We are planning to go on a day trip to Babylonstoren in Klapmuts to visit their delightful gardens.  Babylonstoren is one of the oldest Cape Dutch farms, set at the foot of Simonsberg in the Franschhoek wine valley. It has a fruit and vegetable garden of beauty and diversity, unique accommodation, fine food and wine, and evokes a sense of wellbeing.

The garden comprises 15 clusters spanning vegetable areas, stone and pome fruits, nuts, citrus, berries, bees, herbs, ducks and chickens, a prickly pear maze, and more. Gravity feeds water from a stream by rills into the garden, flowing through ponds planted with edible lotus, nymphaea lilies and waterblommetjies. Every one of the more than 300 varieties of plants in the garden is edible or has medicinal value. They are also grown as organically as possible and in a biologically sustainable manner. The fruit and vegetables from the garden are harvested all year round for use in two farm-to-fork restaurants. Along the edge of the garden, a natural stream flows from the Simonsberg Mountain to the Berg River, creating a space for indigenous wild olives to flourish. In their shade a collection of some 7000 clivia lilies explode in a spectacular display every spring.

You can book for a daily Garden Tour with one of their experienced gardeners who will be your guide. The tour starts at 10h00, during which they encourage guests to pick, taste, smell and touch while walking through our garden. There is no charge. Its about an approximately one hour+
Please confirm that you wish to go on the garden tour when booking with Reception. Please note that all pathways in the garden are gravel and, in some areas, covered with peach pips. Remember to wear comfortable shoes, bring a hat in summer, sunglasses and wear sunscreen.

There is a Garden Restaurant where no reservation is required, they allocate tables as they become available. You may have a waiting list during very busy times. Their food is delicious and sourced from the farm. Please confirm your booking with reception on Ext 1400 by 12 noon on Thursday, 21 October for us to make arrangements.
