What's Happening: 26/12/2021 – 02/01/2022

At this time of giving and remembering those less fortunate than ourselves, a special thank you must be given to all the generous Evergreen Diep River residents who ‘dug deeply’ into their pockets to contribute to the staff gratuity pool. I find it wonderful to be part of such a kind and caring community. This year R6240 was raised and distributed amongst the general staff of Evergreen Village including Evergreen Health, Grinnell Security, Western Province catering and Whitecliffs gardening. They were very grateful to receive this monetary gift which will go a long way to making the festive season more enjoyable.

Diep River Bistro – Our meal offering includes a special of the day and Bistro Menu with a selection of breakfast, toasted sandwiches, cake plus hot and cold beverages.  Please be sure to give us a heads up by 4pm the day before if you would like to order the Daily Special in the bistro. The Deli Menu is available 7-days/week from 8am-5pm. Please note that no cash payments will be accepted. Please pay on pre-paid account, credit or debit card.

Friday, 31 December                          Fried Hake with Tartar Sauce, Chips and Greek Salad OR Braai: Chicken Kebabs, Pork Chop and Boerewors served with Beetroot Salad
Saturday, 01 January                         New Year’s Day Brunch / Bistro Menu
Sunday, 02 January                           Caprese Salad, Roast Pork Neck with Honey Mustard Glaze, Roasted Potatoes and Seasonal Vegetables

Coming up:

  *   Saturday, 25 December - Christmas Day Lunch – WPC are preparing a lovely spread for Xmas.
  *   Sunday, 26 December - Family Day Lunch - Cold Meats & Salad will served in the Bistro from 12h30. Please book lunch with WPC on Ext 1404.
  *   Friday. 31 December - New Year’s Eve will be celebrated with a get-together in the Bistro from 8pm. Join us for a festive get-together to bring in the New Year! Please bring your own plate of eats and your own refreshments/glasses. Call Margie on Ext 1519 to put your name down. Covid Rules Apply.
  *   Saturday, 01 January 2022 - New Year’s Day Brunch between 10-1pm R75.00 pp - please book with WPC on Ext.1404
  *   Tuesday, 28 December - Bridge Club, hosted by John Taylor, will be held in the Recreation Room every Tuesday at 2pm. All welcome.

Housekeeping:

  *   Please note that the transport company providing the taxi for shopping each Tuesday has opted not to provide the service anymore. I am in the process of looking for another provider and will let you know as soon as we can find a company that adheres to our COVID protocols and resident requirements at a reasonable fee.
  *   Refurbishment News - There have been delays with the contract and it is now confirmed that we will only commence our refurbishment when everyone returns in the New Year.
  *   Library – Please ensure that should you return a book to the library that you place it on the table clearly marked. We sanitise all books prior to putting them back on the shelf. Your cooperation is appreciated.

COVID-19 Protocols & News :

Just to remind you what our village COVID-19 protocols are for family members and visitors:

  *   All visitors will have to be screened at the security guardhouse on entering the village. Visitors will have their temperatures recorded as well as be sanitised and will need to provide contact details.
  *   Family members and close friends may enter the village to visit residents in their homes. Grandchildren (under 18’s) may be allowed to visit and we respectfully request that once inside the village that they do not leave your unit.
  *   We recommend that there are only six people in your home (including yourselves/visitors) at any one time.

  *   We strongly recommend that visitors keep their masks on at all times and that even in your homes you maintain the 2-meter distancing protocol.
  *   All visitors must wear three-ply cloth masks at ALL times and remember to wash hands and sanitise regularly.

I am grateful for the support, assistance and co-operation from all the residents and their families since I have taken over as Village Manager at Evergreen Diep River. I wish you all a blessed Christmas, Seasons Greetings and a joyful celebration as we move into 2022.
