<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12.0pt">This is causing confusion as residents are questioning how their meters are going to be reset and what happens to any outstanding credit on their meter?<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12.0pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12.0pt">In terms of the law the meter cannot be reset – it is sealed by a SANAS (South African National Accreditation Service) certified VO (Verification Officer) in terms of SANS 1524-1. The meter can
only be reset by a certified VO which requires breaking the seal. Incidentally, this regulation applies to all custody transfer metering devices with cumulative totaling - including water meters.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12.0pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12.0pt">What <u>will</u> be reset is the billing software for each account. Any credit on the
<u>meter</u> at the end of a calendar month will <u>not</u> be lost (i.e. the meter reset to zero) and the resident can purchase an additional R950 (600kWh) in the following month irrespective of whatever credit (kWh) is reflected on the meter<o:p></o:p></span></p>
