South Africa began administering the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine to health workers on Wednesday last week, following the arrival of a consignment of the shots.

All Evergreen Healthcare workers have been enrolled on the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS).  This platform will be used to eventually allocate vaccines to everyone in South Africa. With phase two of the programme- targeting essential employees, the elderly and those with comorbidities, expected to begin in the second quarter around June 2021.

Evergreen Health has on two occasions sent data on the number of residents and staff in all our villages, to confirm our numbers with the Department of Health and Dept of Social Development.

However, our residents will still have to self-register on the database as the vaccines will be administered through the EVDS at a location to be decided upon by the government. In the meantime, we urge our residents to continue to follow all safety protocols. Pease ensure that you wear a three-ply cloth mask over your nose and mouth at all times when leaving your home; wash your hands and sanitise every hour on the hour; practice social distancing of at least two meters.
